Cabalar Meat Co.

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

After a whole week of work and rain, a sunny weekend downtown was EXACTLY what I needed to revitalize my mood.

To start off the weekend, Jake and I had a day out with his cousins at several Lancaster City hotspots. We shopped at Market, ate at Rachel's Creperie, and took them to the rooftop bar at Tellus 360 (all must-see stops for first time visitors.) We even snuck in a trip for Saturday candy at Sweetish.

Saturday ended with a dinner out with my grandparents and a relaxing night in.

But Sunday, we finally got to check off Cabalar Meat Co. from our Lancaster City restaurant bucket list!

Jake and I have been saving this one for a date out, because Cabalar Meat Co. is basically our perfect restaurant.

This Queen St eatery can be summed up as marriage of meat and beer served in a nicely renovated and rustic industrial city space; not too fancy, but also definitely more charming than a fast food chain by far.

Jake, the chef and beer connoisseur of our house, had his eye on the local butcher shop for it's interesting cuts and meat-oriented menu as well as it's partnership with Voodoo Brewery for some good beers.

(We enjoyed some of Voodoo's drinks last year when they hosted a beer garden on the same street.)

I have a little bit of a different palate preference, but I absolutley love that Cabalar is all locally sourced and practices whole animal butchering so that no part of the animal goes to waste.

I also really appreciate Cabalar's transparency with their customers about what they are serving. The restuarant's website features all of the farms in which their products come from.

Cabalar Meat Co. offers a range of meaty breakfast and brunch options as well as side dishes and desserts. They also have a couple of fridges with different beverages like kombucha, cold brew, and teas.

This time around, I decided to try the Poutine which is fonduta cheese curds and beef gravy over french fries.

Jake got the Patty Melt which is a double patty with caramelized onions, slathered in cajun mayo all inside rye bread.

Both of these orders were a little messy, but a lot worth it!

We both also ordered some beer from Voodoo. Jake got the Voodoo Lovechild and I had Brown Ale. Both delicious, especially accompanying our savory dishes.

When I asked Jake what his favorite part of the trip to Cabalar was, his answer was "the really nice guys behind the counter."

Yes, the food is amazing, but Jake is right about the customer service. All of the guys really explained what we were ordering, from the main dishes to the beers.

The whole experience was so good.

Let me know if any of you have tried out Cabalar food or Voodoo beer before, so we know what to get on our next visit!

Happy eating!
