St Paddy's Day || 3.16.19

St Patrick's Day

YORK, PA

Jake and I have trekked all over Lancaster, Philadelphia, New York, and even cities in Europe. We sometimes go on vacations to Florida or take a little trip to one of the many East Coast beaches in the Summer. But we've never really bothered to drive 40 minutes the other direction to visit York!

York holds a yearly Saint Patrick's Day parade that pulls everyone out of their winter funk and onto the streets/into some pubs.

The day was windy and cold, but the streets were lively as people put their worries aside to drink and be merry together.

Admittedly, I never really understood Saint Patrick's Day. A non-Irish man worked to convert Irish Pagans to Christians, so we celebrate by wearing "Kiss Me, I'm Irish" shirts and blacking out by 2pm? There's something about snakes I think... I don't know, it's kind of confusing.

Although the true holiday has been a little warped, I actually really love the jolly and sometimes stupid nature of Saint Patrick's Day.

_____

Saint Paddy's Day used to be more of a feast holiday for Christians, so Jake and I made sure to honor that tradition.

We headed over to Gift Horse Brewing Co where our friend was running his pop-up hotdog business, King Brät, to grab a beer and a brat.

All of the cheerfully drunk pub goers were drooling over our food with good reason. Take a look at those bad boys!

My honest review of King Brät's food: A++

1. I actually don't like sausage, because of that weird perfumey taste. But these dogs were so tasty.

2. The toppings are unique, delicious, and the perfect pairing with a nice Irish ale or stout.

3. THE BUNS ARE SO GOOD!

Check King Brät out on Facebook and support a local business!

After a good meal and some drunk chats with a guy with a green beard, Jake and I strolled over a few blocks to check out Collusion Tap Works.

Surrounded by some rad city artwork, Collusion is a chill bar with a good selection of beer and board games.

Unfortunately we really didn't get to stay too long, because every pub in York was packed full with merry drinkers. If we are ever over in York again, I would love to go back to Collusion though.

The rest of our York day trip was us bopping around until we felt tired. The city was a chilly wind tunnel, which made it less of an enjoyable day in York. I can only imagine how busy the streets would've been if it actually felt like Spring! Maybe next year!

I'm hoping next year Jake and I can revisit York for another Saint Patrick's Day to visit some of the bars we didn't get to go into:

- Holy Hound Taproom

- Crystal Ball Brewing Company

- Mudhook Brewing Company

- Granfalloons Tavern

- Liquid Hero Brewery

Until next time, York!

Thanks for the party and the food!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day,

-KB
