Savannah, GA

Jake and I decided to visit Savannah on a whim. The goal was to find a romantic destination with an affordable flight and Savannah definitely did not disappoint!

This place is gorgeous, historic, romantic, and a little creepy. So, basically the perfect spot for an anniversary trip for two city dwelling explorers.

Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia and the architecture and streets show it. It oozes southern charm and beauty. When people think of Savannah, they think of those moss covered trees. The iconic mossy landscape dominates the city in every one of its 24 squares.

Not only is the greenery and architecture something to admire, the city's culture and cuisine is so much fun to explore. There are shops, bakeries, and tasty pubs and restaurants around every block. It's neat to be in a place that embraces its old Victorian flare; the historic Americana aesthetic shows in almost every establishment.

The first stop on our journey (besides our BnB) was Goose Feathers Café. This European inspired brunch place was recommended to us by several people and oh my was it delicious. They have so many sweet treats and savory brunch options, there is definitely something for everyone here.

Goose Feathers has been serving the community for over 30 years. The café describes its atmosphere as a fusion between lower Manhattan's Greenwich Village and the Left Bank in Paris. It definitely feels like a little southern version of a Paris café.

Jake got a coffee and a birds nest, grits and cheese with two poached eggs on top. I had an egg croissant and a cappuccino. This place is definitely a great little place to check out if you're in the area.

After breakfast, we stopped to marvel at some historic buildings and wander through touristy shops. The shops around City Market are so fun. There is a shop dedicated to Prohibition (next to the Prohibition museum) and some shops focusing solely on foods like praline and cookies.

The Savannah Bee Company was definitely my favorite shop we visited that day. They featured a variety of different honeys and spreads, which you could sample. The man behind the counter had so much knowledge about the honey that it made the experience very interactive.

In the back of the store, they had a mead tasting. Mead is an alcohol made from honey, which was very fitting for the honey themed store. Again, the man running the mead tasting was so knowledgeable and clearly loved his work, which always makes the shopping experience more fun, inviting, and engaging.

I ended up getting three little containers. Two are honeys; one is a classic "best honey" in their shop and the other is an orange blossom flavor.

The other container is a whipped lemon honey topping (kind of like a butter or glaze), which is DEVINE! I can't wait to spread it on top of a classic scone.

NEXT ON MY TO-DO LIST:

- Visit all 24 squares in Savannah.

Each one has different elements and charm. Some have fountains, historic monuments, and plaques.

- Visit the historic houses, plantations, and forts. (Wormsloe Plantation AKA: that place where EVERYONE takes pictures.)

- Walk through some spooky historic cemeteries.

- Go on a ghost tour (we booked a ghost pub crawl on Saturday!)

(look at Jake being a model)

I'm so excited to adventure around with Jake and take more pictures of this gorgeous place. I can't get over the greenery and the old feel around every corner. Look out for more posts to come, maybe about the Victorian place we're staying at or perhaps the ghost tour on Saturday. ;) Who knows!
